Crucifix

In Anglicanism, Jesus is understood as the Incarnation. He is the one in whom two ways of being coexist: the holiness of God and the vulnerability of a human born to suffer. We captured this paradoxical state in a cast bronze sculpture. A Jesus of tender, fragile flesh hangs upon a cross of straight, exact proportions. Arriving with divine power like that solid cross, put to death in weak human flesh, and ultimately resurrected—this is Jesus. Before this crucifix, we meditate on that very moment.

Statues of Mary often stand in front of churches, serving as landmarks that delineate the sacred from the profane and inviting passersby to pause for reflection. However, what stands along the approach to this cathedral is a crucifix, offering people a far more special moment of meditation.
