ganghwa urimaul began as a care facility for children with developmental disabilities. today, about ten residents with developmental disabilities live on campus in “lily’s house,” while the adjacent bean sprout factory provides employment for nearly fifty individuals with developmental disabilities. since residents must leave the facility upon reaching retirement age, the client has initiated the construction of “simon and andrew’s house,” a new residence for elderly persons with developmental disabilities—an age group not yet supported by existing legal frameworks—to accompany them through the final stage of life. simon and andrew’s house is being carefully organized to reflect the physical conditions, daily routines, and psychological characteristics of aging individuals with developmental disabilities. furthermore, the project envisions an accessible, pedestrian-friendly outdoor environment that seamlessly connects with the existing urimaul campus.

강화 우리마을은 발달장애 어린이들을 보육하던 시설로 시작하여, 현재는 캠퍼스 내 ‘릴리의 집’에 10여명의 발달장애인들이 생활하며 옆의 콩나물 공장에서는 50여명의 발달장애인들을 위한 근무처를 제공하고 있다. 발달장애인 역시 정년이 지나면 시설을 퇴소해야 하기에, 발주처에서는 법적 근거가 마련되어 있지 않은 노인 발달장애인들을 위한 ‘시몬과 안드레의 집’을 신축하여 생에 마지막 여정까지 함께하려 한다. 시몬과 안드레의 집은, 노년기에 접어든 발달장애인들의 신체 수준과 생활 패턴, 심리적 특성들을 고려하여 매우 섬세하게 조직되고 있다. 또한 기존 우리마을 캠퍼스와 연계하여 보행친화적인 무장애 실외 공간을 계획한다.
